SA RAPE STATISTICS

The following graphs were created from data released by the South African Police Service's Crime Information Analysis Centre. Important to keep in mind is that these statistics only include rapes that have been reported to police. SAPS estimate that only one in every 35 women report rape and that most report to clinics or hospitals, not police. Also, since 22nd of May 2007 the definition of rape has changed to include the sodomization of men, which obviously excluded many victims' reports

Thus, these graphs reflect an underestimation of rape in South Africa
